Thank you for your interest in joining the York Mills CI School Council! Please ensure that you do the following:
Read the YMCI School Council By-Laws.
Ensure that you are able and willing to make the commitment of attending 5-6 weekday evening meetings and actively participating in the council. Regular attendance is a requirement for the council to vote on matters and move initiatives forward.
Attend the election at the first School Council Meeting on Monday, September 29, 2025, 6:30-8 PM at YMCI in Titan Hall. Please use the school Entrance 8 on the east side of the school, at the north end of the parking lot. Look for the entrance beside the large green bins.
If you are a candidate, you'll have up to 1 1/2 minutes to introduce yourself and say a bit about why you'd like to join council, and anything else you'd like to include. (If you can't attend the election, please submit a written statement to the school.)
Then, there will be an election by all parents/caregivers present, and the 15 candidates with the most votes will be the new council. Immediately after the election, this new council group will elect the executive council. Any member will have the opportunity to self-nominate and/or nominate others in the group for a position on the Executive Council.
Executive Roles and Responsibilities
Any of the 15 Parent/Caregiver Representatives is eligible for an executive role. Previous experience in a school council executive role is not required.
Co-Chairs (two positions)
arrange and chair School Council meetings (including preparing agendas, chairing meetings, ensuring the minutes of the meetings are recorded and maintained)
communicate with the Principal on behalf of the School Council
consult with senior TDSB Staff and Trustees as needed on behalf of the School Council
act as Joint Signing Officer for the council bank account
ensure that the Annual Report is completed
facilitate conflict resolution
act as ex officio members of School Council committees/subcommittees and any school committees, including but not limited to School Budget Committee, School Improvement Plan Committee, School Staffing Committee and Caring and Safe Schools' Committee
ensure the completion of the School Statements of Needs in collaboration with parents/caregivers
observe the School Council’s and/or the Board's Code of Conduct and School Council By-Laws
Secretary
complete records of all meetings in a timely manner
assist the Co-Chairs in the distribution of minutes to all School Council members, ensure minutes, once approved, are available to the parent/caregiver body (e.g. on the website)
responsible for the upkeep of all School Council social media and communications to the parent/caregiver body (e.g. blog, social media, email, newsletters, etc.) - Note: Currently the Council does not maintain social media accounts.
may act as a Joint Signing Officer for the council bank account
observe the School Council’s and/or the Board's Code of Conduct and the council By-Laws.
Treasurer
act as custodian of the funds of the School Council
handle receipts and disbursement of School Council money
keep proper records of all financial transactions
arrange for verification of the School Council’s financial records in June of each year
act as a Joint Signing Officer
adhere to the financial protocol instructions outlined in the School Council Financial Guide
prepare the annual Public-Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) report
observe the School Council’s By-Laws and the Board's Code of Conduct
Important Note: If you are a candidate and for any reason you no longer wish to run or participate as a candidate for the York Mills CI School Council for the 2025-2026 year, please notify the school office as soon as possible but before the vote so that the list of candidates can be updated accordingly.
