All schools in Ontario are required to have a school council. We are important advisory bodies to the schools and school board (TDSB), providing ideas, opinions, and recommendations to improve student achievement and well-being in our school. Your participation can make a difference!
The purpose of a school council is, through the active participation of parents, to improve student achievement and increase accountability of the education system to parents.
YM School Council By-Laws describe how the Council operates, its purpose, objectives, governing principles, and how stakeholders can participate. They are supplemented by procedures approved by the council.
School Statement of Needs (SSON). Every fall, all school councils provide their superintendent with a summary of their school/community’s priorities in the event the school will be having a change of principal.
School Councils: A Guide for Members was created by the Ontario Ministry of Education to assist school council members in understanding how to participate effectively.
The Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) has developed a School Council toolkit that is also available to school council members. It is a quick guide to school council matters.
